If you are currently staying at Hotel Yaramar and you are a big football fan, this week might be quite interesting for you as this Friday, the 5th of May, in Fuengirola there is a Veterans’ match in the memory of footballer Juanito.
Juan Gomez, known as “Juanito”, was a very famous footballer from Fuengirola during the 70s and 80s as he played for Real Madrid for over 10 seasons. He became a real star and won the respect and support of the Real Madrid fans.
After playing for Real Madrid, he came back to his hometown and played for Malaga F.C for 2 seasons. He finally retired in 1989, only 3 years before his tragic death in a car accident in 1992.
Something very curious and endearing about this footballer is that although he passed away a long time ago now, he is still loved and remembered by the Real Madrid fans who up to this day still sing a song in his memory during the 7th minute of each match they play: “Illa, Illa, illa, Juanito Maravilla”, which means something like “ful, ful, ful, Juanito is wonderful!”
This no doubt proves how important and respected he was, so because of this, this week here on the blog of Hotel Yaramar, we thought it would be a good idea to recommend you the Charity Match in his honour that will take place this Friday in Fuengirola.
The match will start in the Elola stadium at 6:00 P.M and will be on until around 8:00 P.M. In it will participate veteran stars from Real Madrid, as well as footballers from Malaga FC and Fuengirola FC, so the atmosphere will surely be amazing!
Enjoy this weekend some good football in Fuengirola!
