There are many wonderful statues in Malaga that represent important people born in here or typical characters of the city.

A good example of this is the statue of Pablo Picasso in Plaza de la Merced or the statues of the “Biznaguero” and “Cenachero” in the Gardens of Pedro Luis Alonso and Plaza de la Marina respectively… But did you know that in Plaza de la Marina there is another statue that represents another important person?

The person we are talking about is the worldwide known Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, famous for writing beautiful tales such as “The Little Mermaid” or “Ugly Duckling”.

The statue was ordered by the Danish Royal Family and was made by a sculptor from Cordoba resident in Fuengirola called José María Córdoba. The statue has been there since 2005 and it represents the writer sited on a bench with a relaxed attitude.

But why is there a statue of Andersen in Malaga? It is very simple, it seems that Andersen visited Malaga in October 1862 and he wrote about it on his book “In Spain”. On it Andersen said that nowhere in Spain he had felt as happy and as comfortable as in Malaga… Beautiful words!! Do you agree with him?

If like Andersen you are also at your happiest in Costa del Sol make the most of your stay at Hotel Yaramar and explore the area… Malaga has many more beautiful things to offer than you can imagine!
