Are you a keen golfer? Would you like to play more during the winter but you can’t due to bad weather conditions in your area?

If this is the case why don’t you make the most of the great weather we have in Costa del Sol by playing golf in here?

As Costa del Sol is one of the most popular destinations for golfers last June Hotel Angela, Hotel Yaramar and Hotel Florida Spa decided to create a golf department in order to make the golfing experience much easier for you.

As many of you might not know about this new department this week we would like to dedicate this blog entry to the person in charge of it: Guillermo Gonzalez, our Group and Golf Sales Executive.

We have interviewed him so you can get to know him a bit better. This is what he said:

  • What do you like the most about your job and about working in a hotel?
I’m passionate about work and I love the fact it is related to one of the most beautiful sports ever. I love to be in contact with guests, organise their stay and look after them while they are in here in order to make sure they come back home filled with beautiful memories, happy with the experience and looking forward to visiting us againThis role makes me learn daily and it is quite challenging, so this is something I really enjoy.

  • Had you worked in the golf industry before? If so, where?
I used to work for The Ritz Carlton Abama in Tenerife (Canary Islands). I was a Golf Coordinator for this great resort, which even has its own golf course. In there holiday packs included green fees for the golf course of the hotel and for other courses in the island. I was part of the reservations team but at the same time I also offered a personalised service to guests. This role also made me get some good experience at organising important golf tournaments like the Abama ProAm

  • Why do you think so many golfers come to Costa del Sol?
We have the fortune of being in one of the best places in Europe for golfing. Temperatures here are great, with an average of 28 degrees in summer and 15 degrees in winter. This makes possible to play golf all year around. As we are by the coast courses here tend to face the Mediterranean Sea so views are amazing. There are 56 courses in here and the sun shines about 325 days a year, so it makes sense that Costa del Sol is also known as Costa del Golf.

  • What would you like to say to guests who play golf at home but have never tried to play in here?
I would like to motivate them to come and play as the atmosphere in Costa del Sol is great and the service and sea facing facilities are fantastic. It is a wonderful experience to be able to have breakfast while enjoying some beautiful sea views and then in less than 15 minutes being all ready to start playing golf. Plus in the evening you can make the most of our delicious local cuisine and have fun with friends or family.

  • Do you play golf in your spare time?
I started playing 4 years ago when I lived in Tenerife. One of my best friends was a caddie master in the Abama golf course and he was very passionate about it since he was a child. His passion was quite contagious so I started to play with him as my instructor. I got hooked since that first time when I hit that ball with an 8 iron.

  • In your opinion, what does golf have that other sports don’t? Why do people like it so much?
I think you get hooked to golf from day one. It does not matter how old you are or if you are male or female. It is much more than a sport. You embrace the environment and also the social life around it. Golf is also that cold beer with your mates after playing 18 holes, the friendly banter while you are playing. Golf is also about respect as you have to follow a dress code, you get to interact in the pro-shop and also with your caddie master. And well, as in all games there are some important rules you have to follow as well.

  • Would you like to share a message with our guests?
I would love them to contact us as we will offer them a personalised service before arrival and once they are at Hotel Angela, Yaramar or Florida Spa. They will enjoy lots playing golf in Fuengirola no matter if they are skilled golfers or beginners.

Thanks a lot for the interview, Guillermo!
