Holy Week is calculated based on the phases of the moon, for this reason the dates might vary from year to year. This 2014 it will be from Sunday the 13th to Sunday the 20th of April, though a few days before its official start some religious events will take place in Fuengirola. Holy Week in Fuengirola city centre - Hotel Yaramar Fuengirola

On Saturday the 12th of April, known as “Sábado de Pasión” or “Saturday of Passion”, there will be some events at Iglesia del Rosario located in Plaza de la Constitucion as at 8:15 p.m the “penance station” of La Salud parish group will start there.

A penance station is a procession in which brotherhoods go around town and includes at least one visit to a temple.

This event will end at 10:30 P.M at Iglesia del Rosario and its itinerary includes some of the most important streets of the city centre like Avenida Condes de San Isidro or Plaza de los Reyes Católicos, which was inaugurated quite recently.

The following day, on Palm Sunday, is when Holy Week officially starts so there will be many events in Fuengirola on this day.

One of them is at 10:30 A.M at the processional brotherhood headquarters located between Bioparc Fuengirola and the bullring. Palm and olive branches will get blessed and there will be a procession from there to Nuestra Señora del Carmen church located at Parque de España, very close to the Fuengirola Town Hall. This procession is meant to finish at 11:30A.M.

There will be another palm and olive procession at 11:30 A.M that will pass through Plaza de la Constitucion at around 12:30 P.M.

And to finish off with the Palm Sunday celebrations there will also be a lovely procession in which an amazing throne containing a figure of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a small donkey will be carried by men. This beautiful procession will start at San José Church at midday, will finish at 3:00 P.M at Calle Córdoba and will pass through Avenida de Mijas, Avenida Condes de San Isidro and Plaza de la Constitucion among many other streets of the town centre.

This is only the start of one of our most beautiful and most special weeks, so if you are on holiday at Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, and you fancy experiencing something unique and awesome we recommend you not to miss this opportunity.

Enjoy Holy Week in Fuengirola!
