What is a jabega?

The main aim of Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, is to make you have a wonderful holiday. This summer, as many of you already know, apart from this we would also love you to embrace our culture.

On this blog and also on our weekly Spanish culture activity at the hotel we do our best to show you typical things of our area and the treasures that Fuengirola and the region of Malaga hide.

Because of this today we would like to dedicate this blog entry to jabegas.

A jabega is a rowing boat very typical from Malaga even if its origin is Phoenician. Although jabegas are very traditional, this tradition remains alive thanks to the love and passion of locals and to the regattas organised all over the area.

This 2013 there have been more regattas in the area than ever with a total of 12. Fuengirola was among participant towns and the regatta here took place on the 7th of July, being this the first time that it participates on this regatta league.

Malaga is on the coast and the sea is very important to locals so this is why it is essential to us to stay close to our roots and to preserve our typical traditions.

On your last holiday at Hotel Yaramar did you have the chance to see the regatta of jabegas in Fuengirola? If so we would love to know your opinion, so please visit our Facebook page and let us know!!
