Torrijas

Easter is one of our favourite time of year at Hotel Yaramar as it is spring and many of you decide to make the most of the holidays by visiting us.

There are lots to do in Costa del Sol during Easter, from sunbathing, to attending our Holy Week processions or enjoying the delicious traditional sweets and cakes available this time of year.

While Easter eggs are the most popular sweets in most European countries, in Spain our most popular treat are torrijas.

Torrijas are quite similar to French toast. They are delicious and pretty easy to prepare so today we would love to share its recipe with you:

Ingredients for 2 people:
  • Hard bread

  • ¼ litre of milk

  • 2 tbs flour

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 lemon

  • ½ glass if olive oil

  • Cinnamon stick

  • 1 tbs grounded cinnamon

  • 1 tbs sugar

Method:

Pour the milk in a pan and add a bit of lemon peel and a cinnamon stick. Heat in a medium heat for about 5 minutes. After this transfer it to a different container and let it cool down.

Cut the bread into 3 centrimetre thick slices and put them in a dish. Pour the milk over them and let them soak for about 10 minutes. In the meantime, beat the eggs and put the flour in a wide bowl.

Take 1 piece of bread, get rid of the excess of liquid, coat it in flour and then dip it in egg. Do the same with all the slices.

Now it is time to fry them up, so put the oil in a pan and let it heat. Once it is ready start frying them up until golden. When you take them out, we recommend you dry them with some kitchen paper as it will help to get rid of the excess of oil. To finish off, mix the sugar and the grounded cinnamon and sprinkle the mix all over them.

Cooking torrijas is easy and quite cheap, so if you are at home and love cooking, we would love you to give them a go.

On the other hand, if you are spending Easter with us at Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, and you fancy trying them you can find them in most local bakeries as well as in the sweet area of our buffet.

It’s Torrijas time! Enjoy them!
