It has been a while now since here on the blog of Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, we last dedicated a post to the amazing cuisine we have in our area.
Autumn is now half gone, and as this time of year the temperatures go down a bit what we all feel like having is a dish of tasty warm and comforting food. So because of this and because we love good food this week here on the blog we wanted to introduce you one of the star dishes of our gastronomy: “Plato de los Montes”.
As its name indicates “Plato de los Montes” is originally from the Mounts of Malaga. It is a quite rich dish prepared and eaten mainly during autumn and winter, especially on Sundays. It traditionally includes pork in lard, fried egg, chorizo sausage, black pudding, chips and fried peppers… It sounds delicious, right?
Its origin is quite interesting as it seems that this meal was what muleteers started to eat in the 30s when they had to cross the mounts of Malaga. This job was quite hard and energy consuming so a big dish of food rich in fats was what they really needed to fight against tiredness and low temperatures.
Nowadays is one of the most popular dishes of our gastronomy and it is available in most “venta” restaurants around Costa del Sol.
Although as we said this is a dish rich in calories and cholesterol, from time to time we deserve a treat and to forget about our diets, especially when on holiday! Don’t you think so?
