As you know every Thursday from 10:00 to 10:30 a Spanish Culture Activity is on at Hotel Yaramar. In it apart from giving you information about Costa del Sol and sharing our customs we tend to highlight the similarities and differences between our way of life, sayings and traditions and yours.
Yesterday, for example, was Mother’s Day in countries like the UK while in Spain was a normal Sunday. Because of this, today here on the blog we would like to share a few interesting facts about Mother’s and Father’s Day as these two are very important days that depending on the country we are from are held on a certain date.
In the United States Mother’s Day has been celebrated on the second Sunday of May since early 20th Century. In other countries like in Canada, Australia, Finland or Japan is also on the same day, though in countries like Spain or Portugal is on the previous Sunday. Meanwhile in the United Kingdom this celebration is always held on the fourth Sunday of Lent, therefore yesterday, Sunday the 15th of March.
Exactly the same thing happens to Father’s Day. While in the UK, Ireland or the United States, among many other countries, this is on the third Sunday of June, in some Mediterranean countries like Italy, Spain or Portugal is on the 19th of March. The reason why it is held on this day is religious as this is the day in honour of St. Joseph, who was a father figure to Jesus.
If you are interested in this kind of thing and you are currently on holiday at Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, why don’t you join our Spanish culture club?
It will be a real pleasure to meet you!
