Hemingway & Ronda

2014 started just a week ago and among the New Year’s resolutions of many of us are possibly to travel more or read more.

Not everybody loves reading the same kind of books or love the same authors, but what is undeniable is that Ernest Hemingway was one of the most important writers of all times and also a great traveler.

This American author did love Spain and this was featured in some of his work, being a good example of this his famous book “The Sun Also Rises”.

Hemingway hung out with famous Spanish artists like Pablo Picasso and attended the San Fermines in Pamplona a few times. This experience left him fascinated about bulls and bullfighting and made him write the above named book.

“The Sun Also Rises” received great reviews and it was considered his greatest piece of work. A few years later while in Spain he wrote a book called “Death in the afternoon” which was also about bullfighting and Spain.

His relationship with Spain was very important as not only he wrote about our country and our traditions but he also worked here as a reporter during the Spanish Civil War.

He was also very close friends with famous Spanish bullfighters like Antonio Ordoñez, who came from Ronda. In Ronda in fact there is a very famous promenade named after the popular American writer due to his deep friendship with Ordoñez and his love for this beautiful town. This promenade is one of the most emblematic in town as it is right by El Tajo gorge.

About Ronda he wrote that it is a place worth a visit. He considered it a very romantic town, perfect to get to spend time with a special lady due to its beautiful environment, its good wine, great food and its peacefulness.

We totally agree with him as Ronda is no doubt one of the most special and beautiful places in Costa del Sol, therefore the visit is more than worth it.

If you are passionate about bullfighting, you love Hemingway’s books and we have awoken your interest we recommend you to visit Ronda and get to explore it while on holiday with us at Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola.

We are sure that, like Hemingway, you will also fall in love with it!
