The Enlightenment Stupa

Have you ever observed the landscape when you were at the beach in Fuengirola and have seen something golden and shiny up in the mountains? Well, that sparkly thing you saw is the Buddhist Stupa in Benalmadena.

This stupa is known as the “Enlightenment Stupa” and it is the biggest one in Europe.

This temple represents peace, prosperity and harmony and it is a place for meditation since it opened its doors almost 10 years ago.

Inside the building there is a meditation room with beautiful paintings on its walls, and downstairs there is a room that is used for exhibitions related to Tibetan Buddhism, the culture of the Himalayans and the stupas around the world.

If you fancy visiting this beautiful place for meditation you can do it without much trouble thanks to the train line that connects Fuengirola with Malaga and other towns in Costa del Sol. You only have to get the on train in Los Boliches station (the closest one to Hotel Yaramar) and get off in Benalmádena – Arroyo de la Miel. Once you are there, right by the station, you will have to get on the L2, the bus that connects Arroyo de la Miel with the stupa and the Butterfly Park, a unique attraction in Costa del Sol… well worth a visit too!

The Enlightenment Stupa is closed on Monday, but it is open the rest of the days, so if you are staying at Hotel Yaramar and after reading this post you are all curious and fancy a closer look to this wonderful place we recommend you a visit.

Its beautiful architecture, its stunning paintings and the wonderful views of the coast that you can enjoy from there are breathtaking!
