Sadly Christmas is over, but well, let’s be positive and focus on the fantastic year we have ahead.Parchis & Oca - Hotel Yaramar Fuengirola

When we think about Christmas, special meals with the family come to mind as well as hours of fun chatting and  playing board games together.

When Christmas is over we forget about parties and feasts but board games continue providing us good entertainment for a while.

The 2 most played and most famous board games in Spain are parchis and oca, as everybody knows them well and has played them sometime in their lives.

Parchis is similar to Ludo, the maximum number of players tends to be 4 and it is played with a dice and 4 counters per player.

Each player plays with a colour (red, green, yellow or blue) and the target of the game is to move the counters from the start square to the finish one while trying to get rid of the counters of the other players.

The first person to get the 4 counters in the finish square wins the game.

Meanwhile, Oca (“Game of the Goose” in English) is a game for 2 or more players which is played with a board containing 63 squares, all of them with different pictures.

It can be played with 1 or 2 dices and depending on the square the player lands on the counter will go further, go backwards or even get a penalty.

The winner of the game will be the first player to land on square 63, as it is the last one and it is known as the “Garden of the Geese”.

If you have enjoyed today’s post and you would like to know a bit more about typical Spanish things why don’t you attend our Spanish club next time you visit Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola?
