Visits to the Sohail Castle

Have you come on holiday to Fuengirola many times and although you have seen our castle many times from the distance you have never visited it?

We have good news for you as only a few days ago the City Council decided to open it to visitors for free from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 A.M to 2:00 P.M.

The main aim of these visits is to make both locals and tourists enjoy this fantastic monument and to help us discover a bit more about the history of our town.

The Fuengirola castle, also known as Sohail Castle, was built in the 10th Century after Caliph Abderraman III ordered its construction.

Its main purpose was being a fortress from where was possible to control the coast, so this is the reason why it is strategically up on a 38metre tall hill by the mouth of the river.

The fact that it is uphill means it offers stunning sea views and this is no doubt a good enough reason to visit it.

The castle has been destroyed and rebuilt on a few occasions and nowadays is considered as the most important tourist attraction in town.

Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, is a bit more than 1 mile away from it, so it is not to hard to get to it by walking down the promenade.

If you have not visited it properly make the most of your holiday with us and get to explore it… Because in Fuengirola we not only have lots of sun, we also have lots of history!
