Monica's Chimney

This can be considered the most romantic weekend of the year as this Friday is Valentine’s Day.

It is celebrated in most countries and most of us tend to do something special on the 14th of February to show our loved one how much we care. The most common thing is to prepare a romantic dinner at home or take them to a nice restaurant, to have a romantic break somewhere, to buy flowers or chocolates or to send him/her a Valentine’s card or even leave him/her a beautiful message on a social network. Well, some people in love go a bit further and do impressive things for the one they love even if it is not Valentine’s Day. A good example of this is what happened in Malaga about 20 years ago. In 1993 one day the tallest chimney in Malaga, which is the one down the promenade that belonged to an old plumb factory, suddenly appeared with a massive name painted on it. The name written was “Mónica” and this was meant to be a proof of love from a young local guy to his girlfriend Mónica with whom he had had a small argument. It is said that his intention was to write “Mónica, I love you” but he run out of paint so he could only write her name. Since then this chimney is known as “Monica’s Chimney” even if the painting is now long gone.

What do you think about this lovely story? Someone has done something similar where you live? Has someone done something this beautiful for you? We would love to hear your Valentine’s stories, so if you fancy sharing them with us please do it on our Facebook page or leave a comment here on the blog.

By the way, do you have plans on Valentine’s Day? If you are currently on Costa del Sol and you wish to spend such an important day with us at Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, be certain you will have a fantastic time… You know how much we love special occasions and celebrations!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
