As you know Fuengirola is one of the most important and most beautiful towns in Costa del Sol. It was founded by fenicians and among the many civilisations that settled here were the romans and the arabs.

During the Roman occupation Fuengirola was called “Suel” and from this period we still have some archeological remains of a very important value. A good example is “Finca del Secretario”, located in Avenida Jesús el Cautivo close to Los Pacos. Los Pacos is a neighbourhood near Los Boliches, so it is easily accessible if walking from Hotel Yaramar.

“Finca del Secretario” was discovered in the 70s while doing the works for the construction of a new train line. It is an outstanding archeological site that counts with a salting factory, a pottery and some thermal baths dated from between the 1st and the 5th Century A.D.

Close to this site a sculpture in white marble from the Mijas mines was also found. This sculpture is commonly known as “The Venus from Fuengirola”.

“Finca del Secretario” is open every day of the year, from Monday to Sunday, from 10 A.M to 7 P.M and the entry is free, so if you are passionate about history and the Roman Empire, do not hesitate, go and visit it, have a great time there and discover the historical heritage of Fuengirola.
