Palm Sunday in Fuengirola

Sunday the 9th is Palm Sunday, the official start of Holy Week. As it is the first day of this very special week many religious events will take place all over Spain.

Palm Sunday: 9th of April, 2017

As every year in Fuengirola we will celebrate this day by carrying in procession what is considered as the most beautiful, most modest and nicest throne of all.

The image taken out in procession is quite new, as it was created by young sculptor Alvaro Abrines in 2014, and two of its most outstanding features are the peacefulness in Jesus eyes and the presence of a snail on its base.

This throne is known as “La Pollinica” as one of its figures is a very young donkey which in Spanish is known as a “pollino”. This donkey accompanies the figure of Jesus as the Bible states that he entered Jerusalem on a donkey.

Apart from the figures of Jesus and the donkey the throne also gets decorated with a palm trees and a wide variety of beautiful flowers.

If you have never experienced Holy Week in Spain, or if you have and loved it, Hotel Yaramar recommends you not to miss this beautiful procession that will take place on Sunday from midday till about 3:00 P.M and that will pass through the main streets of Fuengirola city centre.

Are you ready for a beautiful Spanish Holy Week?

Painting exhibition in Casa de la Cultura

Last week here on the blog of Hotel Yaramar, we recommended you the amazing exhibition about Japan in Museo Thyssen Malaga. Today the plan we are about to suggest is to be done in Fuengirola, as one the main characteristics of our town is that there is always something fun to do here.

Our recommendation this week is the amazing painting exhibition currently on display in Casa de la Cultura. This exhibition started at the beginning of March and Casa de la Cultura is located right in the city centre, in Avenida Juan Gómez “Juanito”.

The author of the paintings there is a young local artist called José Manuel Gómez Zamora, who got an interest in music and art from a very early age thanks to his dad, who is also an artist.

José Manuel studied graphic design and it is a freelance designer, though in 2014 he decided to start preparing his first painting exhibition.

The entry to this showing is free and it will be open to visitors until this Wednesday, the 29th of March, so if you love art and right now you are on holiday at Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, we certainly recommend you not to miss it.

Enjoy art while on holiday in Costa del Sol!

Japan. Engravings and artistic objects

Are you currently on holiday in Hotel Yaramar, your hotel in Fuengirola, and you have planned to spend a day doing a bit of sightseeing in Malaga?

If that was your plan, you find museums interesting and like the Japanese culture, we would like to recommend you the stunning exhibition called “Japan. Egravings and Artistic Objects”, which is currently on display in Museo Thyseen and available until this Thursday, the 23rd of April.

There you will be able to see 24 stunning ukiyo-e engravings from the 18th and 19th century, as well as a painting from the great artist Kawanabe Kyosai, over 20 interesting Japanese objects and 2 Japanese weapons lent by the Bilbao Museum.

Malaga is famous for its multiculturalism and its many museums.

The best thing about them is that not only pieces of art from locals like Picasso are available but also from other great international artists.

Enjoy Malaga and Japan in just one day without having to go too far!
