Fuengirola...
The town of Fuengirola offers one of the best port areas on the Costa del Sol but you don’t only have to be a sailing aficionado to enjoy it. Yes, it does have over 225 berths and it is the home for some of the Mediterranean’s most stylish watercraft but the port also has much more. There are a myriad of bars, trendy restaurants, and shops in the port area that cater to every taste. It makes the perfect place to people watch.
For those of you who are more active, the port also offers a variety of water sports, ranging from scuba diving to parasailing, and jet-skiing. Tickets from most of these activities can be obtained from the Port Ticket Office. It is located at the left side of the port entrance and can be reach by phone at 952 588 458. It is also the spot to obtain tickets for other activities like glass-bottom boat rides, yacht rides, and dolphin-watching excursions.
Fuengirola is also famous for its seven kilometres of beautiful, well-maintained beaches. The most popular are El Ejido/El Castillo, located near Sohail Castle, one of the most-loved tourist locations in the town. Santa Amalia and San Francisco beaches are two of the most central beaches located near the port and the hotel. You will find all the amenities you need for the beach within reach and also, you can sample the fine fare of the Spanish beach bars called “chiringuitos”. The sardinas espeto (charcoal-grilled sardines) are especially mouth-watering. They are cooked over charcoal and taste unbelievably good.
Fuengirola is also a great place for families. For example, there is the Fuengirola Zoo. This modern, animal-centred zoo has a number of recreated climates where the animals live in a semi-natural environment. The zoo opens daily at 10AM and is located at Avenida Camilo José Cela, Fuengirola. Call 952 666 301 for more information or at the desk.
